Hi! I am so excited to talk to other people about the Outlander
series. I truelly love reading them. I am on my second time around
and I am discovering new things this time. I love Jamie and Claire.
I can not wait for the next book to come out and I do believe Diana
Gabaldon has a lot of pressure on her shoulders to get the book
finished. Will one more book be enough? I can't seem to read
anything else. I would love to discuss the books with any of you.

Hi deedee,

I am new to the series...I am in the middle or Dragonfly In Amber...I
am dieing to talk about the books...it is crazy how obsessive they can
be. At first I thought it would take a life time to read the 800 page
+ books but I find myself flying through them...I just can't put them
down. Is there really a seventh book in the works...Oh my goodness, I
better get going...I have 4 to go yet! I am so enthralled by Jamie and
Claire...their relationship is what ever girl dreams of...If you want
to talk about anything in the first two books, I would truely be game.
My husband is growing sick of it...I am so crazed that sometimes I
think it is real...what will I do when I get my chance at time travel,
Ha ha!

Hi!

Thanks so much for responding! This is my first on line group. I
just had to join something because like you, my husband can't take
much more! Actually, I have 4 teenage kids and I am always telling
them highlights of the story. They humor me, but....I know I drive
them crazy. I am always telling them all the amazing things Jamie can
do!! I started the books last June and I have enjoyed them more then
I ever thought I could. The relationship between Jamie and Claire is
so amazing. I think Diana Gabaldon is a genius. She writes so
beautifully. Well, I am 42 years old and I have been married for 22
years. I have 4 wonderful kids. 2 boys, both in college and 2 girls
in high school. They probably have all passed me up as far as
maturity goes, I don't imagine I will grow up anytime soon!!!!

Hi deedee and m.raistrick!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to welcome you both sooner. I've been busy.
I've got four kids too though mine are a bit younger than yours are (12 yo
girl, 9 yo boy, 6 yo girl and 4 yo girl).

I've read the whole series multiple times and love it! I can't even recall
how many of my friends and family I've gotten hooked on this series over the
years.

It does seem that the characters are real, like I know them and have known
them for years. I've invested a lot of time into them and it will be sad to
see their story come to an end.

From what I've read, Diana has at least one more book (but probably two
given the way things tend to split on her) which should end the story around
1800. She's also supposed to write a prequel about Jamie's parents Brian
and Ellen and another book about the life of Master Raymond. That should
keep her (and us!) busy for the next ten years at least!

I'm always up for discussions, so fire away! Any specific topic you want to
delve into? When I'm reading these books, I don't do anything else. My
husband and kids know not to bother me because I get so engrossed in them.
The time just seems to fly by. If you look at the books, they're quite
intimidating but once you start, you can't stop. They're like potato chips;
you can't have just one!

One other thing, if you get a chance, you should definitely listen to the
unabridged audio CDs by Davina Porter. It's so cool to hear the accents and
the correct pronunciation for the people and places.

Well, I've got to go but I look forward to chatting with you both!

Welcome again!

Hi ladies:

I am fairly new myself and for the very same reasons have looked for
somewhere else to chat. My husband isn't into the series like I and
can't understand why I have read it so many times. I am sure you
ladies do. I have three girls myself 15, 9, 8. I work full time
and have to fight with my 15 yo inorder to get any time on line.
LOL. I broke down and bought a lap top so I can at least do some
work.

A big welcome to you new ladies and a big HI to Alida.

Chat with you soon. 15 yo wants to use the net. bye

Hey ladies!

Okay, isn't it great knowing that you are not the only one out there
with the obsession?? Well I am in the middle of Dragonfly In Amber
for the second time. I know that m.raistrick is also in the middle of
Dragonfly, where are the rest of you? One of my all time favorite
parts so far has been the part where Claire decides to stay with
Jamie. The second time I read it, I just wanted the story to end
there, but there is sooo much more to their story...I can't wait for
the next book. I sometimes worry that something will happen and Diana
won't be able to finish the book. Isn't that terrible? I have never
read a book twice and when I first heard about this series, everyone
said, they read the series multiple times. I thought that was crazy,
well here I am reading them a second time. And I know I will continue
to read them more and more. Well, let me know your thoughts!

Hi

I know how you feel. I want Diana to hurry. now that is terrible.
if we make her hurry up the books will not be nearly as good. I love
the part were they fall of the settle and land on the floor. Claire
can't beathe but they don't care. I was worried that Jamie would
have left by then too. but when Claire sees Donas still hobbled
outside I was able to breathe again myself.

As for reading and re reading the books I must be on my tenth time at
least. I still find parts that I have forgotten or missed some how.
I had to force myself to read each page in the second or third time
through. Now I savor every word. LOL

Angela,
I know what you mean about savoring every word. When I read Outlander
for the second time I wanted to skip some parts, but decided not to
and enjoy every part of it. I discovered new things. I am so glad,
because I will get so much more out of it. I hate the parts where
Jamie is describing his abuse. It makes me sick. Poor Jamie. I
can't believe you have read the books 10 times. I am sure I will read
them that many too. They are so good, they bring me peace when I feel
stressed. I love reading about the 1700's. Have a great day!

Well, I just gotta chime in here. Yup, I'm a guy who loves this
series. I started reading historical fiction with Kenneth Roberts as a
kid, (Arundel, Rabble In Arms, Cowpens, Arnold's March to Quebec, etc.
Google for him, you'll find plenty).

I'm currently collecting the books as a gift for my wife, and have no
doubt that she'll love them. She's a Terry Brooks fan, and some other
fantasy stuff, too. Eragon and Redwall, etc. Hope she'll like it.

You ladies might want to consider dragging your hubbies to a local
Highland Games in your area. There are a lot of them held every year
all over the country, might not be too far a drive. Get him interested
in all things Scot, and maybe they'll pick up a book? Who knows?

I might also suggest, Sassenachs, that buying your significant other a
kilt and suggesting a little fun with it might break the ice as well.

I wear one for my wife from time to time, but I can't bring myself to
wear one out in public!

My ยข2
Donny
