Anyone else access the newsgroups through AOL? I got a notice that AOL is
discontinuing the newgroup services..(that sucks!) and I have to get the
newsgroups through an alternate service.. anyone else switching over to
something... I don't like Google. Good old usenet was great this way.. but like
anything else., times change. Maybe AOL is afraid of being sued if someone
wanders into a smarmy newsgroup and is approached for unseemly things.
I guess I may have to see what optimum offers.. starting to be a lot a reasons
to let AOL go. Hate to change my e-mail address tho... If anyone has any
advice..
I'd be grateful..

That really stinks! I don't have any advice but do understand your
frustration. Good luck whatever you decide.

Hi, Nancy.

No one really knows. I imagine if you ask AOL, they can tell you, but
they're giving no official reason. I can guess that it has more to do with
the complaints they keep receiving about their users and anonymous flaming
of other newsgroup users. From personal notice, the grand majority seems to
come from AOL people. And that's a very UNscientific observation, I might
add.

And that was really my last reason to hang on to AOL. I've got my screen
names through Bellsouth that I had on AOL so it's not like I'll not have
them anymore. Just a different server. AOL has long since become unwieldy
and impossible to navigate through without waiting for a graphics heavy page
to pull up. I'm going to dump it, but I'm thinking about signing up with
CompuServe again. Yes, I know AOL owns the company, but they seem to have
better communities and Lady G isn't the only writing professional or author
on the site. I just can see the expense of having AOL anymore.

JMHO, anyway.

I don't know if you have this or not, but Outlook Express through Microsoft
Internet Explorer offers newsgroups. I also know that there are some through
Yahoo, but Diana Gabaldon I believe isn't on it (or maybe it was they had it
but that no one replies to it.) You could also look on Herself's website if
looking for a place to chat about Herself's books. I use Outlook Express
myself so I haven't much info on what's up to date, but here's the link to
website: http://www.dianagabaldon.com/
I hope I help some :-)

I had been using the berlin server, which is going to fee based and this
ng wasn't on it. Just found this one on shawnews, but there seems to be
an awful lot of penis enlargement spam, we should look into moderation.
