I came to the party a bit late, and as such, I am just now finishing the
Fiery Cross, and have totally fallen in love with Roger. Without being
overly specific, can someone who has read A Breath of Snow and Ashes tell
me if there is as much Roger in ABOSAA as there was in FC? Of course, I
will read in either way, but I would like to anticipate more of him, if
that is the case.

Also, I am a bit confused about Roger's ancestors. He grew up in
Scotland, which is all well and good, but he crosses the Atlantic with his
great great great (etc) grandfather, who is immigrating to America. On
the whole, once people immigrate to America, they tend to stay in America.
I was imagining they would move back to Scotland after the Revolution if
they were fighting for England, but in FC, William Buckleigh is fighting
for the Regulators against the Crown, so I can't imagine him switching
sides a few years later. I don't think DG has specified in any of the
books how Roger's people got back to Scotland, so I would be interested to
hear speculation on it from you all. Also, how would this crossing and
re-crossing of the ocean affect the Rev's immaculate lineage of Roger's,
especially in the pre-internet age? I know he is a historian, but those
must have been some well kept records.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks for your help!

In my opinion, Roger does play a significant role in ABOSAA plus the pace is
a little faster and the book flows better so you should be very happy with
it. I really enjoyed it much more than FC.

Now, as for your question about Roger's ancestors being back in
Scotland...honestly, I never thought about it until you mentioned it. I
don't have a specific answer other than we'll have to wait and see if
Herself will fit that little tidbit into the next book. I looked through
the Outalndish Companion and there wasn't anything in there about
MacKenzie's traveling back to Scotland after the Revolution.

Maybe someone else here can shed some light on that.

Enjoy the book!

Roger, Brianna & Jemmy all play big roles in this book. I love the
dynamics of their little family group & the larger extended family with
Claire & Jamie.
Terrific book! I told myself I was gonna read it oh so slow, but just
practically sped thru it to see what was gonna be next.
I was thrilled about 2/3s of the way thru the book when I realized that
she couldn't possibly make it thru the whole revolution in this book.
Yippee!!! We get AT LEAST one more....
